Building Confidence and Opportunity for Girls at Nyorit Primary School

As students across Tanzania prepare for their upcoming national examinations, our team continues to invest in something equally important: confidence, health, and hope for the future.
Last week, Sarah, a member of Humanity for Children's Tanzania team, met with girls in Grades 6 and 7 at Nyorit Primary School for an open and encouraging discussion about education, personal hygiene, health, and the unique challenges girls face as they grow up.
For many of the girls, this was more than just a conversation. It was a safe space to ask questions, share concerns, and receive guidance from a trusted female mentor.
The discussion focused on helping the girls prepare for their national examinations by encouraging regular school attendance, consistent study habits, time management, and confidence in their abilities. Sarah reminded them that success does not come from fear, but from preparation, determination, and believing in themselves.
The conversation also addressed personal and menstrual hygiene, topics that are often barriers to girls' education. When girls have access to accurate information, support, and the resources they need, they are more likely to stay in school, attend class regularly, and pursue their educational goals with confidence.
Beyond academics and health, the girls talked about self-confidence, making positive choices, respecting themselves, and knowing where to seek help when challenges arise. These conversations help young women build resilience and understand that their education can open doors to opportunities that may have once seemed out of reach.
What stood out most was the girls' eagerness to learn. They asked thoughtful questions, shared their experiences openly, and demonstrated a strong desire to build brighter futures for themselves and their communities.
